Functional Fitness Training


Regular physical activity also helps to maintain the functional independence of older adults and enhances the quality of life for people of all ages.

Functional Fitness focuses less on appearance and more on improving one's ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL's) and recreational activities. Unlike traditional exercise that focus on isolating a specific muscle, functional fitness focuses on using multiple muscle to perform an exercise or task with body awareness and core stabilization.

Components of Functional Fitness Training

  • Flexibility and Range of Motion (ROM)
  • Balance and Stability
  • Multi-Functional Movements
  • Strength and Cardiorespiratory
Functional Fitness exercises include stability balls, medicine balls, balance boards, balance beams, foam rollers, cables, and rubber bands. Functional specific exercises are designed to improve life's activities from sitting and standing, housekeeping and gardening, driving a car, picking up children to walking on the beach and hiking in the mountains, playing golf and tennis, surfing and skiing only to name a few.
